A look at the PRINT and Press Holiday “Elf Workshop” For Women In Need

Did you know that 70% of homeless New Yorkers are families with children?

Out of concern for these families, we have made donations each holiday season to the non-profit WIN (Women In Need). As detailed on their website, they are an organization that had its beginnings back in 1983:

“… as a shelter for four homeless women and their combined six children. Since then, WIN has evolved to become a leading, non-profit agency and the largest provider of shelter for homeless families in New York City. They serve close to 12,000 homeless women and their children each year. Win has sharpened its focus from offering shelter and support to homeless women and children, to providing comprehensive programs and services that enable homeless families to succeed in life and break the cycle of homelessness.” –WIN website

This year our management team set up our “elf workshop” and wrapped gifts for fifty of those children living in the WIN shelter system. In their letters many of them said that their real Christmas wish was to simply have an apartment and move out of the shelter. Reading each one of these letters made us all grateful for just having a place to call home. It is our greatest hope that these gifts bring some light and joy into their holiday season. If you would like to donate to WIN or volunteer at one of the shelters please look on their website and see how you can help.
