Looks like the groundhog knows his stuff. This has got to be one of the earliest springs that I have seen the the decade I have lived in New York.
An early spring brings an early arrival of anticipated wild edibles. Lesser celandine and garlic penny cress are already coming our way from Meadows and More in New Jersey. Rumor has it there will be ramps NY the end of March.
The warm temps have also brought many farms back to the Greenmarket earlier in March. On Monday, Lani’s Farm (also from New Jersey), had bunches of wild garlic chives. As for cultivated crops, many farmers are already planting and many are harvesting from hoop houses (like these french breakfast radishes from Eckerton Hill in PA).
We will keep you updated on Instagram with new Spring ingredients , both foraged and cultivated, as we find them.
