All year long we look forward working with Wellness in the Schools (WITS) and visiting our new partner school PS33 for Cafe Days and Cooking Labs. However, the WITS Gala is always a highlight of the year. It’s hard to believe this is our 5th year being a part of such a special evening amongst so many prestigious restaurant partners. We gather not only to celebrate all of the work that WITS has accomplished, but more importantly to increase funding to expand WITS programming. As America continues to struggle with the obesity epidemic, we recognize it is beyond vital to offer children healthier school lunch options, valuable nutrition knowledge, and cooking skills which have a long-lasting impact for a healthy adulthood. On top of that it is always a whole lot of fun (guests were encouraged to rock sneakers with their evening wear) and offers up a delicious array of tastings from NYC restaurants. In fact, this year Town and Country Magazine listed it as New York’s Most Delicious Fundraiser.

Pastry chef Amy Hess and her team added to the delight of the attendees’ taste buds with her Chocolate Dipped Buckwheat Waffle Cones filled with Coriander Cream and Macerated Strawberries. In case you are wondering, the local Farmer Ground buckwheat flour is what gave this sweet treat a healthy-ish spin.

All in all it was great to reconnect with our many WITS Chef partners throughout the years, and meet new people involved in Wellness in the Schools and further wellness in our restaurants. We can’t wait for next year!
